How we’re being Green

“It’s not easy being green” – Kermit the Frog.

Being a salon & spa and being green is no easy feat with all the chemicals and garbage laundry we do in any single day. To help us being green we recently we joined the Green Circle Salons.

Green Circle recycles & repurpose hair, foils, colour-tubes, papers and plastics AND divert excess hair chemicals from being rinsed down the drain.

And yeah, that means hair! We place all the old hair that ends up on the floor of the salon into one of the containers. That hair is recycled…yup. But don’t worry, it’s not to make mustaches or hats, it’s used to help clean up oil spills! Hair attracts oil and repels water better than almost any other substance. Green Circle Salons makes hair booms and they’re for use by professional oil clean up to every day people. In fact, some of the oil booms that were made by Green Circle Salons were used to soak up the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Other items that were not easily recycled in the past were hair chemicals, foils used from highlights and are now picked up from the Green Circle Salon group and sent to many different agencies that are able to use these materials for other purposes.

Being a member of the Green Circle Salon isn’t free and there is a $2 additional cost now on your bill to cover the cost of the recycling, delivery and to help run the Green Circle Salons program.
